Hong Kong Day 4 - 9 Apr 12

On this day and the next, we were at Macau. Here the phone dataplan did not work, thus we missed out on quite a few places, as I saved all the information in Google Map.

Tip: Try getting a Macau map prior to going and then indicating the places of interest on the map itself. With the compass on your phone (download compass program beforehand), you will then be able to orient yourself.

On the way to Senado Square
Took the ferry over to Macau, then took the free shuttle bus to The Grand Emperor, before walking to Senado Square.

Tip: You might want to consider taking the Grand Lisboa free shuttle bus instead as the Grand Emperor one, as the wait was pretty long. The shuttle buses are free from most major hotels to the ferry terminal, so make good use of them in planning your route.

Menu
Braised Noddle with Wanton and Shrimp Egg   Rating: 4/5
Shrimp Dumpling Soup Noodle    Rating: 3.5/5
As we still have not eaten, decided to drop by Wong Chi Kei for breakfast. Not expecting much for a tourist joint, but surprisingly the food was really tasty. Cost us HKD69 for the 2 bowls of noodles.

St Dominic's Church 玫瑰聖母堂
After breakfast, we walked from Senado Square to the Ruins of St Paul. On the way we passed by St Dominic's Church which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

On the way to Ruins of St Paul
Ruins of St Paul 大三巴牌坊   Coordinates: 22.197453,113.540841
The Ruins of St Paul, an icon of Macau, the front facade is all that remains of the St Paul Cathedral built in 1580s, with the rest of the building destroyed by fire and typhoon.

There is a steel stairway build at the back, allowing us to climb to the 2nd level. Even though we were there quite early at round 10am, there were already many people taking in the sights here.

Na Tcha Temple 大三巴哪吒廟 Coordinates: 22.197789,113.540622
We then visited Na Tcha Temple which is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, just next to Ruins of St Paul.

Bubble Tea Store
Choi Heong Yuen Bakery 咀香園餅家
Koi Kei Bakery 钜记饼家
Egg Tarts - Koi Kei on the left   Rating: 4/5, Choi Heong Yuen on the right   Rating: 2/5
We stopped by the foot of the Ruins of St Paul and ordered a Peach Toto Ice Tea Drink and 2 Egg Tarts. The Peach Toto Ice Tea Drink was a sour, sweet peachy concoction, cost HKD17 and got a rating of 3.5/5 from us. The Egg Tarts were from 2 famous bakeries in Macau with the Koi Kei one having the more generous filling and way more delicious. Both cost the same at HKD7 each.

Tip: You can buy Almond cookies amongst others from the shops here. They provide samples for you to try before buying. We bought quite a bit of stuff from Koi Kei to bring back. Remember to buy after you come down.

Sign showing way to the Mount Fortress
After the short break, we walked up to Mount Fortress.

Cafe
Just by the entrance to Mount Fortress, there is a cafe which serves drinks and snacks. Here we took a toilet break. There is a statue of Mother Mary just by the cafe.

Macau Street View
After conquering Mount Fortress, we proceeded to walk the quaint streets to take in the old charms of Macau.
View of Venetian Macau Room
View of the Bed
We took the free shuttle bus from Sofitel to the ferry terminal before changing to the one going to our Hotel, the Macau Venetian.

The room was one of the biggest we have stayed. Booked it from Zuji.com for S$225 a night.

Venetian Hotel Food Court
Glorious BBQ King 盈晖烧味至尊
BBQ Meat Rice   Rating: 3.5/5
Took our lunch at the Venetian Hotel Food Court. We also ordered a Roast Goose thigh plus vegetables (HK110) to go with the BBQ Meat Rice (HKD55)  from Glorious BBQ King. The Roast Goose thigh was superb Rating: 4/5.

Venetian Hotel Shops
Note their famed ceiling. I've been told that the sky changes color according to daylight. Did not pay much attention to notice any change though.

Mermaids at City Of Dreams
We walked over from the Venetian to the City Of Dreams as it is just across the street. At the City Of Dreams, we caught the Dragon's Treasure show. It cost us HKD50 per person. At the same time we collected The House Of Dancing Waters Cat 2 tickets which we booked online at HKD880 per person.

The 15 minutes long Dragon's Treasure show is presented in a standing room only theater with a round dome. The show is displayed across the entire ceiling and wall and you can watch the dragons, fishes swimming around as the story is told. However the display is rather low resolution which detract from some of the enjoyment of this multi media show.

MGM Hotel
Wynn Hotel Entrance View for the Fountain Show
Lobby Ceiling depicting 12 Chinese Zodiac Signs
From City Of Dreams, we took the shuttle bus to the ferry before changing for one to Wynn Hotel. The Wynn Hotel has a couple of free shows, namely the Performance Lake Fountain Show and 2 other shows, Tree Of Prosperity, Dragon of Fortune.
Tip: Best to catch the Performance Lake Fountain Show at night. The other 2 shows alternate every 30 minutes in one of Wynn's Lobby with the Zodiac Signs.

We hurried back to the City Of Dreams for our final show which is the House Of The Dancing Waters. This is a lavish show which detail the trails and tribulations of a fisherman and his friend in overcoming the Evil Queen and rescuing the princess. There were plenty of oohs and ahs from the audience as one after another stunts, acrobatics and dances captivates and the colorful and extravagant stages and costumes provide the backdrop for this story.
Tip: When booking tickets for this show, do not get tickets for the front 2 rows as you will get wet, in part due to the over zealous actors who takes pleasure in getting you wet!

Fatburger
Returned to the Venetian Food Court for our dinner/supper. As it was quite late, some of the stores were already closed. With not much choice left, decided to get the Wanton Noodle from Glorious BBQ King (Rating: 3/5) and a Beef Burger set from Fatburger, which comes with fries and milk shake.
The milk shake was the worst I've tasted (Rating: 0.5/5), burger worst than Mcdonalds (Rating: 2/5). Only redeeming item was the fries (Rating: 3.5/5)
