Polo Bun with Butter (Rating: 4/5) and Egg Tarts (Rating: 3.5/5) |
 |
Milk Tea Rating: 3/5 |
Took the MTR to Prince Edward Station and went to Kim Wah which is a Cha Chan Teng for breakfast. We ordered their famous Polo Bun with Butter and Egg Tarts. Delicious!
However, the tea was not too outstanding. Maybe because I'm used to Singapore's version!
Cost us HKD54 for 2 Polo Bun with Butter, 2 Egg Tarts, cup of milk tea and cup of ice lemon tea.
Take note that not all their items are available early in the morning.

Vouchers used to exchange tickets for the Crystal Glass Cable Car |
 |
View from Crystal Cable Car |
After that sumptuous breakfast at Kim Wah, we proceeded to take the MTR from Prince Edward Station to Lai King Station where we changed to the Orange Line to Tung Chung Station for the Ngong Ping Cable Car. The Cable Car ride has been closed for the past 2 months for maintenance and just reopened on the 5 Apr.
The ride was wonderful and trumps the one we took at Ocean Park. More on that later.
Tip: Try to go early. We were there 15mins before they open at 9am on a
Sat (Weekdays open 10am, Weekends and Holidays 9am). Because we were
using vouchers, we skip the buying tickets queue and went directly to
another counter to exchange tickets and had the entire cabin to
ourselves.

View of hiking trail |
Directly below our ride, on Lantau Island, we were able to discern a hiking trail. We saw some hikers and even managed to get a wave out of one who happened to be looking up!

Shops along the street leading to the Big Buddha. Most were not opened yet. |
|
Tip: You will be given shopping vouchers (4 HKD10 for the 2 of us) when
you purchased the cable car tickets. You can use the vouchers at the
souvenir shops. Do ask before buying though. Wife bought 10 pens (HKD10 each)
and with the
vouchers paid only HKD60.

View of the Big Buddha before the ascend |
A total of 268 steps to the top, I was told. At the base before ascending, we were asked if we wanted vegetarian meals. Because my intention was to eat at CityGate Outlets restaurants, we declined. They then suggested that we pay for the entrance to view some relics with an added bonus of Tau Hua at Po Lin Monastery thrown in. Having heard good review of this Tau Hua from some blog, we paid up the 50HKD for the 2 of us.

Close up of the Big Buddha |
After the fairly tedious climb up, we then proceeded inside the Buddha to view the exhibits which consists of a finger joint remain of Buddha, a big bell as well as some ancient scrolls and scriptures. It's pretty small and we finished it in no time.
 |
Path of Wisdom |
About 15 mins walk from the Big Buddha. Very tranquil and quiet in the morning. This Path of Wisdom consists of tree trunks sliced in half vertically and engraved with the Heart Sutra arranged in a figure of 8.

Meal that comes with the Big Buddha Exhibition Rating: 3.5/5 |
This is the meal that we got for HKD50 inclusive of admission to the Big
Buddha to view the relics. The relics exhibition is quite small but for
the price together with the meal is cannot be faulted. Maybe we were hungry after the climb and walk, but the meal taste pretty good!

Some Pogo Performance |

On the way back we managed to catch some pogo stick act. Not too bad, I must say.
 |
CityGate Outlet Mall |
At CityGate, you can shop to your heart content at the various Outlet Shops such as Nike, Coach, Burberry, Samsonite, Esprit, Polo Ralph Lauren etc. We spent around 3 hours here! Some of the items are cheaper than what you can get in Singapore. There is a Food Republic here.
 |
Beef Congee |
After shopping at CityGate, we return to our hotel to dump our spoils. Then proceeded to the restaurant opposite the hotel, Sheng Ji Congee for some congee. Ordered 2 bowls of congee (Pork with Century Egg Congee and Beef Congee), vegetables and some fish cake. Very generous with the ingredients. Cost: HKD68 Rating: 3.5/5

More night scene along Sai Yeung Choi Street |
 |
Girl promoting some event |
Like I mentioned before Sai Yeung Choi Street is a very happening place. Here is a photo of a pretty girl promoting some event.
We took a stroll along Tung Choi Street or Ladies Market where there are street side stores selling all types of things ranging from wine opener, bags, t-shirts, headphones etc.
Why is it called the Ladies Market? This is because the market sells a lot of stuff for the ladies.
And also to distinguish it from the Men's Market.
Tip: At this market, make sure you bargain. If in doubt, walk away and ask around several shops. Many a times, the vendor will offer you a low price as you are moving off.

Honey Mustard Fries Rating: 3/5 |
Was expecting a lot from Ireland's Potato. But it turned out ok only. Buy only if you love potato.
 |
Milk Tea with small pearls Rating: 3.5/5 |
This milk tea was fairly decent, huge and with a price of HKD12, worth recommending. You can request for less sugar if you so desire.
 |
Eggette 雞蛋仔 Rating 4/5 |
The Eggette 雞蛋仔 from this store is delicious at only HKD8, but comes with a long queue.
Note that there is another store selling eggette just around the corner
next to Fei Jia Snack Shop. Do not buy from them (think is the famous
North Point branch). It's HKD15 a pop and tasteless. Now I know why they don't have a queue.
