Today was another rainy day. What a damper! But onward we shall prod. The trains in Japan has a lot of advertisement and some of them are hang on the top.
We wanted to visit the Tokyo Skytree this morning. Reached there, but with the rain still pouring, decided against going up to the observatory decks and instead choose just to shoot photos of the tower below. Besides it was pretty crowded as it only opened this year. Will leave this attraction to the next time we visit Tokyo.
Picture of Buddha slippers. It's huge and hung on both sides of the main entrance to the temple
Picture of the intrigue design of dragons at the hand washing area
This is the main entrance to the Shrine, which is famous for it's huge lanterns.
Pictures of more deities within the compound
Went to this shop to have a taste of their dessert. Their fried fritters are really good
Fried Fritters Rating: 4.5/5 |
It's great as it is hot, and on a cold raining morning really hits the spot.
So much so that we had to get another.
Nakamise street which was wet with patrons carrying umbrellas. Along the streets, you will find shops selling souvenirs, tibits, clothes etc
The famous Karimon gate where despite the rain, people still pose for photos
An art work in the subway. Notice the lantern and the train in the background.
On our way to the next destination, we happen to pass by Bread Papa and stopped for a bite
Bread Papa 200 Yen Rating: 3/5 |
Got their latest creation, however it is not as good as the original. Not sure what is the filling, cause the wordings were all in Japanese, possibly pumpkin?
Yes, our next destination was Odaiba. This is the famous replica of the Statue of Liberty with the equally famous Rainbow bridge in the background
Another picture of the famous landmark. It's a pity it's still raining, casting a gloomy glow over the entire picture
The Fuji Television building, which we only took pictures of, but did not go visit
Finally, had out lunch over here.
Pork (780 Yen) & Shrimp/Squid (1160 Yen) Okonomiyaki Rating: 4.5/5 |
We ordered 1 Pork, 1 Shrimp/Squid Okonomiyaki.
The server will cook it for you and it takes more than 1/2 hour to reach this final stage. Oshii! You can add your own seaweed and Katsuobushi powder.
The store is Fugetsu and it originates from the land of Okonomiyaki, which is Osaka. This shop is in AquaCity.
They even have a Coca Cola shop there!
After lunch, we went to browse the Decks Beach Shopping Mall.
They sure sell alot of knick knacks here, including cute and colorful socks.
We spied more food in the distance and just could not resist.
Takoyaki Set 830 Yen Rating: 4/5 |
Even though we just had lunch, we still wanted to try the Takoyaki here. The Takoyaki over in Japan are much softer than the ones sold in Singapore. Wife prefers the harder ones while I prefer the softer ones.
Ordered from a stall which seems to be popular.
Like many of the places here in Tokyo, you need to make your choice and get your ticket from a vending machine. Was not too difficult with the pictures helping
Not much of a museum really though they have some exihibits on display
Hello Kitty is also popular with the folks here. Here you have Hello Kitty mini cakes.
Walking further to Diver City, we saw an imposing figure which turned out to be Gundam. This 18m tall imposing structure is a must visit for all Gundam fans.
We then walked all the way to Venus Fort.
Venus Fort is one of the many shopping malls here. What distinguishes it from the other shopping malls are it's ceiling are painted to look like the sky. It is also home to many branded shops as well.
There is a fountain in the middle with some sculptures.
We also visited the Toyota Megaweb where they have a slew of activities as well as cars for you to peruse.
You can also choose to drive the cars here for a small fee.
There is a Hello Kitty shop called Kawaii Paradise where your kids can take a photo with Hello Kitty. They also sell an assortment of Hello Kitty, but the range is rather limited.
Night scene of the Statue of Liberty and Rainbow Bridge. Romantic and very beautiful at night.
Finished off with dinner at Tenya, this time trying the Udon instead Soba. Personally, I prefer the soba over the udon. But it was still good, nevertheless
Pudding Rating: 4/5 |
Shochu Rating: 4/5 |
