This morning we woke up exceptionally early cause we want to have sushi for breakfast! For that we took the 1st train to Tsukiji Station from our hotel in Ueno, then walk a short distance to Tsukiji market.
When we reach there, my wife was saying to me, dear! the queue is very short! But in reality, the queue actually continue at the side of the building. This is so as not to block the other shop's entrance. The only shop to command a queue this early in the morning is Sushi Dai.
As we had other prior engagement, I decided against joining the queue and went for the other famous sushi shop which Sushi Daiwa. Fortunately, there was no queue early in the morning on a weekday.
When we entered the shop, it was empty save for the friendly sushi chefs behind the counter. With a uniformed chorus of "Irashai mase" meaning welcome in japanese ringing in our ears, we took a seat and was immediately presented with an english menu. We both chose omakase set which means chef's choice.
Our friendly chefs at work. Taking in consideration my lack of experience in eating sushi, the sushi here tasted really fresh. As the restaurant was not crowded, we did not feel pressurized to finish our food, which was good.
If I remember correctly, the entire course for the 2 of us was 7000Yen and it was quite an experience. The next time I come here, I will join the queue for Sushi Dai!
There were these small vehicles zipping around so do be careful when you are there. Keep to the side whenever possible and keep a vigilant look out for them. There have been cases of tourists who were injured by these.
Real wasabi sold in the market. Yeah, wasabi is a kind of root and not in a tube. You rarely will find wasabi sold outside of Japan as most are consumed within Japan.
Fresh fish sold in the market.
We did a quick tour of the market as we had to go on to the next place.
On the way, we pass by the Tsukiji Shrine. I personally witness the Japanese people when passing by this Shrine, gave a quick bow of acknowledgement in the direction of the Shrine before going their way. In fact when visiting the other Shrines, the same act was also seen occurring.
We reached Maihama Station quite early and bought the 2 days Tokyo Disney Liner Pass for 800Yen each and took the train to Hilton Tokyo Bay which will be our hotel for the next 2 days to leave our baggage. The Hotel is very near to the Bayside Station and it is only a couple of minutes away from DisneySea which is our destination for today.
We got there 1 hour before opening time and there was already a queue forming. Little did we know that the queue would extend even further all the way nearly to the station! The above mat which we got from Daiso at Harajuku proved very useful. Although it was rather small, we were able to squeeze the 2 of us within and it is keeping with the Disney theme.
Have already read about the Japanese obsession with Disney so it's no surprise that you can already spot all things Disney amongst the people in the queue including Easter Eggs!
Once the opening time neared, you can feel the excitement building up, many Japanese when they are through the turnstiles will literally run to the attractions. We follow suit but lost steam halfway through. Ha ha, unfit and no longer young, have to resigned to fate.
The first ride we took at Disneysea was 2000 Leagues Under the Sea. Before that, we got fast passes for Journey to the Center of the Earth. We were probably the first couple to ride it and it was practically deserted at opening. It was a dark ride and my wife was not quite fond of this ride. To me it was ok, but a really short ride.
Next ride was Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Crystal Skull. We enjoyed this ride much better and got a fast passes for it. When at Disneyland or Disneysea, you gotta understand the concept of fast passes and make full use of them.
We took off for Journey to the Center of the Earth cause our fast passes were up. Great ride this one!
Even the refreshment booths are designed to fit the theme. Freaking awesome.
Walked around a bit, past Port Discovery. Above pic is the Aquatopia ride which we did not take.
Finally got on to another ride, a kiddie ride really. But my wife really likes this kind of ride, very similar to It's a small world ride.
Arabian designed, very lovely and you can see the attention they put in to the details.
Tomato and Mozzarella Pizza 680 Yen Rating: 4/5 |
Spaghetti Bolognese 680 Yen Rating 3.5/5 |
Tiramisu Roll Cake 350 Yen Rating: 3/5 |
Had lunch next at Zambini Brothers' Ristorante. The food here was rather pedestrian, but we were rather famished and finished it all. Nicely themed as well.
Information booth near the entrance where you can find the wait times and timing of shows.
Took a ride on the Venetian Gondolas, and surprisingly, one of the front rowers was a girl and a pretty one at that. Pity they spoke in Japanese, but most shows and attractions here and in Disneyland were like that.
Secured a place for the parade and went to get an ice cream to eat while waiting. Sea salt vanilla ice cream, not too bad really. Comes with a container which you can take home.
The parade was excellent, with plenty of energy displayed by the dancers. Definitely not to be missed.
One of the rides which we did not take, Tower of Terror. By the time we reached there, the fast passes were all given out and the queue was really long.
Really good excellent strawberry popcorn. Should have tried the other flavors. Maybe next time.
Even the popcorn stands have queue and it was a weekday at time, although the queue was rather short.
Walked around the park and then upon see people sitting down for the night parade, we followed suit, our legs thankful for the respite.
The Fantasmic show takes place at night and couple of hours before this, you will see people taking up position. We really enjoyed the show, although it was a cold night.
Taking the train back to our hotel for the night which was Hilton Tokyo Bay.
Duffy bear for the wifey. Even the sole of the feet is typically Disney!
Bought some drinks and desert before calling in a night. The green tea mochi was going at half price because it was late, but still, they packed it up so beautifully!
