Yayoiken Restaurant

Yayoiken Restaurant

Date visited:  Sunday 24 Jun 12 11.15am

Read about this value for money Japanese restaurant from the internet. So on a hot Sunday morning, drove down to Liang Court and found the restaurant more than half filled, with a good portion of clients japanese.

Shima Hokke Set $12.90   Rating: 4/5
The Shima Hokke or grilled Aka Mackerel was huge, but as with this type of fish, there are plenty of bones. Apparently this is one of their signature dishes. Took a walk later at the Meidi-ya supermarket and noticed the same fish frozen selling for $10 plus! So this dish is definite a steal.

Buta Shogayaki Set $9.90   Rating: 4/5
Buta in japanese means pig and the Stirfried Sliced Pork With Ginger here comes with plenty of bean sprout. Smoky, coupled with smoky with a tart, sweet sauce, this dish really shines with a bowl of rice.

Mix Toji Set $13.90   Rating: 4/5
The Mix Toji consist of sliced beef, fried prawn and port cutlet smothered with egg. This is another delicious dish although the layer of batter was soggy due to the eggy sauce.

Their set comes with a miso soup, appetizer and rice. The miso soup is excellent, definitely a grade above those you find in food court. The rice, although good, is however a shade below Ootoya. Do note that the rice is free flow and you can help yourself to it somewhere in the middle of the restaurant.

The food here is really value for money and great tasting as well. So we will be back to try their other dishes. They have since opened their second outlet in Bugis.
